Well, this certainly didn’t take long AFTER the election. Wish I would have known about this BEFORE the election. What a bunch of dips!

This is all about the revenue. No matter what the mayor and council says is their reason for wanting this, it’s all about the money…nothing else. The entire budget of $85,000.00 dollars for the seasonal workers for 2009 came out of the storm water ( can you say tax ? ) fund. Now the mayor and council want more of your money without having to go to the voters to get it.

There are rental areas of Stow that look like slums. These areas devalue the property values all over town. Having said that, Stow should be able to police these slum properties by enforcing existing zoning/property laws – without asking for additional revenue.

I am more concerned about the extra charges on our water bills each month that are nothing more than extra taxes. Has anyone noticed an improvement in the quality of our water?…………. I thought not.

MizQue — that charge, as much as it sucks, has nothing to do with the “quality of water”. Again, it would help if people actually knew what they were complaining about. It goes towards the mandated Clean Water BS enacted by the Feds years ago.

Secondly, I agree — there are properties that look like they belong in areas of LA — Lower Akron LOL. But the city needs to enforce their building codes on ALL properties — owner-occupied and rentals. Start issuing warnings giving them ample time to make repairs. Then start citing them. If they’re cited, drag them to court and if repairs need to be made, then the city can have them made, with the costs added to the person’s property tax bill (city will not charge extra for this — just whatever it would’ve cost the consumer, for example). But the city really should start enforcing their building codes for ALL residential properties. It would benefit EVERYONE!

And for the MORONS around here who say this would be a “tax” — this is where you’d shut up and educate yourself for a change. It’s not a tax, it’s a FINE for breaking a city ordinance!!!

How’s that for a start? Again, this is where a blog like this would be more credible and less of a joke if it offered valuable and substantiated solutions — not cowardly bitching and accusations.

Jack: Go back and read the legislation again. Only part of the language deals with fines. All the other sections deal with fees. Quite a few of these fees will be paid annually and monthly. What is the difference between a tax and a recurring fee? It looks, smells and feels all the same to me.
