“If It Ain’t Documented – It Didn’t Happen!

by SCRGadmin on Sep.01, 2011, under Our School System

SCRG requested  detailed information on how much money was saved by the Superintendent.  We received the following chart indicating that $15,141,271.90 was cut from the budget since 2006.  The chart does not answer the question as we presented it.  We asked:  “Please list the names of persons reduced in the enclosed flyer as of February 17, 2011 and the individual savings to the district in salary and/or benefits which they would have received as board paid.”

In the district treasurer’s letter in response to the public information request it was stated:  “Our office researched district records and determined there are no records responsive to your request.”

Frankly, we are confused.  How can you save money but have no record of it?

We are still waiting on a study to show the results of the installation of the Honeywell heating equipment that is listed under “Honeywell Energy Savings Project”.  The chart shows that over half a million dollars was saved by using the equipment but we are unable to see any results of any study verifying that amount (or any amount for that matter).

There are other issues with the chart.  See if you can spot them.  Have fun!

I grew up in Stow and thought the faculty and support staff for the schools at every grade (K-12) were fantastic. Now, later in life, it is not just the faculty and teachers that are important to me, but how my money is spent and how my school system are working for my future, the city’s future, and most importantly, the kids’ futures.

What I find most intriguing is how long this has been going on. Any board that I have been a part of makes swift changes when things like this show up. Yet this continues…

Any CEO or CFO will tell you that numbers are not to be played with, because their accuracy is essential in successfully leading any company into any future. But what I continually see here is some people playing number-games and operating on someone’s gut instinct. The funny thing about gut instinct is that it changes based on mood.

I don’t know about anyone else here, but I work too hard to give my money to people who might make a good or a bad decision based on how they are feeling that day.

Adversely, prove to me that my money is being well managed and benefiting my kids and my city’s future, and I will gladly vote to pass levies.

Teachers and Stow Citizens for Responsible Government, keep up the good work.

This does not surprise me, I hope you or anyone is not shocked by this. People are saying how negative some are in our community but those are the people not willing to actually see what is happening behind closed doors at city hall and the BOE.
