Reaction To The Echo Hills I.B. Meeting And What Others Are Saying…

by SCRGadmin on Sep.02, 2011, under IB, Our School System

Keep in mind our biggest objection to the International Baccalaureate Progam(one section of which is referred to as “PYP” (Primary Years Program) is the high costs of bringing it into SMF Schools.  We cannot see blowing the many dollars for this program when we have to charge pay-to-play fees and can’t bus our highschoolers.

Here are some websites to visit to learn more about the costs to the taxpayers and some of the shady behaviors noticed at the Echo Hills meeting to explain I.B. to parents.

It is common to give a very low initial estimate of IB then come clean with the actual costs later. In my district it went from $427,000 for ten years, to $1,000,000 for the first three years. It will quickly go up in your district too.

In Waco the initial estimate for IB was about $321,000 for two years, the actual cost will be over $1,300,000

Your superintendent is either misleading you intentionally or he is unaware of the actual costs, either way he is doing your community a disservice!

IT IS NO SURPRISE YOUR DISTRICT IS HAVING A “BUDGET CRISIS;” it will continue as long as Mr. Jones is your superintendent.

What a dip-wad! Be sure to look at the StowPatch link (first one in the article). These websites are eye-openers! This is what we are buying with our tax dollars?

I looked at some of these web sites. ATTENTION SCHOOL BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT: Knock off the crap!
Your meeting at Echo Hills was a JOKE! You danced and waltzed around the questions like a political pro. I expect such dancing at a city hall or legislative meeting, but not concerning our kids. I have to join other folks by saying, I will NOT vote for another school levy until this board and this superintendent are gone!

  • Truth About IB

You know, it’s one thing when a Board and Superintendent “like” something and insist on having it. And I don’t care what “it” is …. if it benefits kids and education in some way and a community can afford it, go for it. They’re only kids once.

    *BUT*

It is quite another when a district claims to be in dire financial straits and the Board and Superintendent act like brain-dead zombies with a platinum credit card who insist on throwing money at Swiss bank accounts while forcing the “peasants” to pay more and more for their Eurotrash designer edu-wear!

SHAME ON JONES, BULGRIN, MOORE AND THE ENTIRE SMF BOE! You are a disgrace to American public education.

    RESIGN NOW!

It did seem as if Dr. Jones was “dancing” around the actual questions. I’m not sure as to how or why he would mislead the parents with regards to the cost. On this site as well as truthaboutib.com, they have clearly (with receipts) given the $$ amounts of training as well as the budgets listed on Indian Trails’ Application A. Does he truly believe the public is stupid? IB is currently at IT, did he mention IB was coming? Could parents not have scheduled a meeting with these reps and get our questions answered? And I would truly love to know why Echo parents were afforded this meeting when we at IT were not..our meeting was scheduled after implementation and I don’t even remember being told of the meeting…..Has anyone looked at the 5 year forecast? I can’t find where the funding for IB is coming from for either school. Can someone help with this? I would also like to know what exactly our BOE does? Have ANY of the five members voted or even discussed IB and funding in an open forum? I did see Ms. Matthews sitting in the front row the other night and I saw other members, none of which spoke a word. Does their silence mean that they fully support Dr. Jones on his quest for bankrupting our town? Does this also mean we don’t need a levy since we can obviously afford such an expensive program? Does this Board realize that Dr. Jones by virtue of his actions, is allowing for three members to be ousted this November?

When The 2009 ARRA porkulus bill listed $10+ Billion for “innovative programs” for Title I schools, all kinds of red flags went up for me. I saw it as a vehicle for expanding IB in low-income districts, but I really didn’t anticipate that Superintendents would deliberately misidentify schools in their districts as Title I in order to use Federal money to implement IB. My first tip off was in Island Park, NY. (and to my Island Park friends, I am strongly recommending that you file a complaint with either the Attorney General or NYS DoE). Please use the information we have obtained from the Ohio Department of Education as the basis for your complaint.

To others who are in areas where your district is “exploring” IB, in particular at the elementary (PYP) level – I urge you to check the Title I funds received in your district and see if they are being applied towards IB. If your school(s) have LESS THAN 40% Free/Reduced Lunch students, they are INELIGIBLE to use that money on IB.

I want you to realize that it does NOT benefit your real estate values to have your neighborhood school labeled a “Title I School”. That means that at least 40% of your population lives in poverty. In effect, IB as employed by disingenuous Superintendents not only dumbs down your schools, it devalues one of your biggest assets, your home.

    In liberty, Lisa

The board is a collective body. Unless they move and vote otherwise, yes, they are supporting IB. The five year forecast is on the District Treasurer’s page of the SMFCSD website. IB is not broken out in seperate line items. But, 12 milliion dollars in unreserved funds shows up on that forecast! Cut busing, staff, HS courses, and enact pay to play? Then don’t buy into extravagent, unnecessary, unproven, elitist, leftist, non-curricular frameworks to build resumes! Some of the BOE is silent because they actually love IB. The rest of the BOE is silent because they let their employees buy a load of nonsense for an astronomical price and they are damned if they do, damned if they don’t now. Plus, November is coming!
